Having your child begin school can sometimes be an anxious time for families. If this is you, don't feel alone. Chances are if you have a question, so do other families. In order to help ease your anxiety I have included a list of frequently asked questions. If you have other questions please email me at [email protected].
Q) What if my child is not potty trained? Can they come to school?
A) Yes! Chances are your child is not alone. We encourage you to speak with your child's teachers regarding how we
can help if your child is ready to begin potty training. We are very well versed in this and can often help you with this
process. We also understand that some children are not developmentally ready for this and we are used to diapers
and everything that comes with it. Here's a link to one of the many lists that provide incite into the signs your child
may be ready to start potty training.
Q) What does my child need for school?
A) Check out our link here. Snack is provided during integrated preschool. You do not need to send one with your child.
Q) Is there anything my child's classroom needs?
A) Throughout the year we will send home a wish list (typically included within our newsletter). This wish list will
indicate whether we are running low on supplies (paper towels are always in need) or if we are looking for
something specific to our curriculum (eg. pumpkins during fall).
Q) What are the days and time of school?
A) Integrated preschool happens on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9-11:40. If you child is receiving
special education services they may or may not stay for the remainder of the day. Some students receiving special
education services may or may not also attend on Wednesdays.
Q) If I need to drop off or pick up my child at a different time that the typical integrated arrival and dismissal times what do I need to do?
A) If you are late arriving or need to release your child early from school you will need to go to the main office to sign your child out. The main office will call us and we will bring your child up to you.
Q) What if someone else needs to pick up my child?
A) The safety of our students is of utmost importance. If someone other than the typical person who picks up needs to pick up your child they MUST be on the list of person's authorized to pick up (this was part of the registration
packet). Also, we MUST have a written note stating what date and who will be picking your child up. When the
person arrives to pick up your child we will be asking for identification.
Q) My child keeps asking for a playdate with one of his friends from school. How do I get the student's contact information?
A) Farley Home and School creates a booklet in the Fall containing all of the information you have released to them (there will be a form sent out). This will allow you to make contact with families who have allowed their information to be released.
Q) Can I send in birthday invitations to school? Can I send in food?
A) It is a school-wide policy that we not distribute birthday invitations. You may use the Farley Home and School Directory booklet to obtain classmates information in order send invitations. On the flip side if you have not allowed your information to be included in this directory this may mean your child may not be able to receive birthday invitations as the other families may not have your information.
The school has a health policy in place that does not allow for food parties. Moreover we often have students with food allergies. Instead if you would like to send in something for each student perhaps consider non-edible items such as pencils or bubbles.
Q) What opportunities are there for family members to come into the classroom?
A) We invite parent participation in the classroom. However, for the safety of all of the students we do require that all
family members who plan on volunteering in the classroom (even just to attend a field trip) must complete a CORI
check which can be filled out in the main office. Please be sure to bring identification with you. Once that is
completed we invite you to attend special math and literacy days, come and read a book, do a craft, share a talent,
chaperone one of our two field trips. We are open to suggestions. Students love it when their loved one visits the
classroom. This is a special event for them.
Q) My child has a food allergy and I am concerned about exposure to foods he may be allergic to.
A) Our staff are familiar with food allergies. Together with you and the nurse we will get to know more specific details
about the allergy so that we can ensure your child's safety.
Q) My child never tells me anything about his day. How can I find out what he or she has been up to at school?
A) It is common for preschool aged children to share limited information regarding their day at school. Instead of asking general questions such as "What did you do today?" consider asking more specific questions such as "What did you eat for snack?" "Did you sing any songs today?" "What did you make today at the red table?" "Who did you sit with?" "Who did you play with?"
Q) When is my child the star of the day and what do they need to bring?
A) You will receive a calendar each month beginning in October. This calendar will let you know what day your child will
be the star. On his or her day we ask that your child bring something to share with the class. Please refrain from
sending in toys that are equipped with weapons. During their day students will also have special jobs such as being
first in line, sitting in a special chair, helping with other tasks throughout the day. If you misplace the paper version
of the calendar simply refer to our website.
